For fabrication and manufacturing A-36 steel is the most widely used. You may call it flat bar, flat stock, strapping, flat steel or steel strips.
Besides flat steel, it's available in round rod, square bar, rectangle bar, and shapes: I-Beams, H-beams, angles, and channels. Plates, HSST Tubing, DOM Tubing, and Schedule 40 Pipe can be made with A36 hot rolled steel.
A36 Hot Rolled Steel Flat is excellent for drilling, machining, sawing, punching, welding and forming.
The hot roll process means that the surface on this steel will be somewhat rough and challenging to machine. Not as strong as 1018 cold rolled steel, so it will bend more easily, but A36 steel costs less.
Intermediate tensile strength carbon steel for use in riveted, bolted, or welded construction of bridges and buildings, manufactured parts and equipment, including farm equipment, dairies, and agricultural implements.
Use it for braces, brackets, frames, base plates, ornamental design, sculpture, etc.
